October 26, 1945
A resolution of the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR was adopted “On the Organization of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR on the Basis of the Kazakh Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.”
1946
The Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR was established. Its first president was appointed the prominent scientist, academician Kanysh Imantayevich Satpayev.
1948
The architectural appearance and main structural solutions of the Academy of Sciences building were approved. [Chokin Sh. Ch. The Path of the National Academy of Sciences: Memoirs and Reflections. – Almaty: Ғылым, 1996. – 256 p. (pp. 27–28)].
The chief architect of the project was academician Alexey Viktorovich Shchusev. The design and construction work were carried out under the supervision of engineer A. I. Prostakov.
1948–1957
The complex of buildings of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR was constructed. The architecture organically combines elements of the classical style with Kazakh national ornaments. Japanese prisoners of war participated in the construction.
1981
On the southern side of the complex, the “House of Scientists” building was erected. [Almaty Encyclopedia – p. 58]. The project authors were architects V. Ekk, M. Pavlov, A. Ordabayev, M. Zvontsov, N. Belousova, and engineer B. Vagaïtsev.
February 11, 2010
According to the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 84, the state enterprise Gylym Ordasy was established by merging the “House of Scientists” and the Central Scientific Library, which were under the supervision of the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
2023
Extensive capital repair and infrastructure modernization works were carried out in the Gylym Ordasy complex.
Today, Gylym Ordasy is one of the largest scientific and cultural centers in Kazakhstan. Its structure includes:

•    Museum of Nature
•    Archaeology Museum
•    Museum of the History of Kazakh Science
•    Museum of Rare Books
•    Restoration and Conservation Center
•    Center for Training Scientific Personnel (Master’s and PhD programs)
•    Scientific Archive
Gylym Ordasy is a center that unites scientific, educational, and cultural activities, contributing to the development of national science, the popularization of science, the preservation of national heritage, and the training of highly qualified personnel.
