1. ABOUT THE CENTER
The Restoration and Conservation Center (hereinafter – the Center) operates as a structural division of the Republican State Enterprise “Gylym Ordasy” under the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The official inauguration of the Center took place on February 10, 2023.
The Center’s structure comprises five core divisions: the quarantine area, the photo documentation unit, the research department, the paper (sheet) restoration section, and the bookbinding workshop. Today, the Center is recognized as one of the largest and most comprehensively equipped restoration laboratories in Kazakhstan, housing 64 units of advanced equipment.
The principal mission of the Center is to prevent the physical and chemical deterioration of valuable publications and manuscripts preserved in library and archival collections, and to extend their longevity through the restoration and stabilization of damaged or fragile materials.

1. BR28712621 - Kazakhstan’s Manuscript Heritage: Registration, Restoration, Scientific Cataloging, Digitization, and Comprehensive Codicological Studies
Objectives: The program aims to create a unified national registry and electronic database of Kazakhstan’s Eastern-language manuscript heritage (Chagatai, Arabic, Persian, Chinese, Manchu, Tibetan, Old Kazakh, and Tote Zhazu). It systematizes and catalogs historical manuscripts, conducts codicological research, and gradually integrates particularly valuable and rare manuscripts into academic circulation.
2. AP26101473 - "Turkic horse breeding culture in Mamluk-Kipchak written monuments (on the example of "Baytar-name")"
The aim of the project is a comprehensive study of literature related to equestrian culture, written in the Mamluk-Kipchak language of the 14th-15th centuries, including the manuscript "Baytar-name". To determine the role of Turkic tribes in the dissemination of equestrian culture by identifying and studying, based on the written heritage, the life and work of the Kipchak equestrian art, its disseminators and propagandists. To identify new sources related to equestrian culture, and to examine written monuments written under the influence of the Turks in Arabic literature.
